Would You Still Do It

Our friends Krystal and Jeff at New Day Counseling wrote and recorded this song in the hopes of preventing suicide and we are honored to share it with you! For more about the song and Krystal and Jeff, see below or visit www.StopSuicideSong.com

We, (Krystal & Jeff), wrote Would You Still Do It many years ago and remember it having a powerful impact on all who heard it, but we never recorded it until recently. We became very motivated and determined to finally do so after a recent suicide of a local teen girl. Posts on her Facebook wall revealed many sad, angry, hopeless thoughts. She wrote, “I want to die.” No one knew to take her seriously when she wrote that she wanted to go to sleep and never wake up again. Hours later, she overdosed on drugs and that is exactly what happened– she never woke up again. A family member found her. We can’t even imagine how painful and tragic that must have been. That traumatized family member and many others will never be the same again. As our heart went out to the family and friends, we decided to record Would You Still Do It in hopes of preventing others from making the drastic choice to end their life. Continue reading

Simple Daily Habits to Ignite Your Passion

Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Scott Dinsmore of LiveYourLegend

For the past 8 years I’ve run experiments on myself and others to better understand what makes us come alive.

This has taken me on ultra-marathons, to the tops of mountains, the bowels of bookstores, around the world and in front of some pretty fascinating people on some very deep soul searching. Finding passion and helping folks do work that embodies it has become a bit of an obsession of mine and has turned up some interesting results.

It turns out passion is not as elusive as we think. Just like daily exercise leads to a more fit and healthy body, there are habits that lead to fire in your belly. If we are to cultivate such a lifestyle we must act accordingly. Continue reading

What Is The Meaning Of Life?

by Tina Su of thinksimplenow.com

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the meaning of life and the impermanent nature of it all. Observing how we do what we do, the struggles we put ourselves through, the drama, the pain and the suffering.

While thoughts about life, death and purpose drift in and out of my consciousness on a regular basis, the seed of this post was planted, when Pooja sent me a link to “The Last Post” by Derek Miller.

I was just getting on a flight when I opened that link on my phone, and by the time I had finished reading it, tears were streaming down. I spent the rest of that flight, and weekend reflecting on the meaning of life. Continue reading

The Comparison Trap

written by Leo Babauta.

I love reading about other people’s work setups, I really do. It’s one of my guilty pleasures.

I’ll read about another blogger’s computer setup, or what kind of notebook and pen he uses, or how he works standing up or on a treadmill or while doing handstand pushups and growing a vegetable garden.

And when I read about some cool setup someone else has, some cool new way of working, I inevitably want to try it. I’m only human.

You’ve done this too, probably. You might read a review of some new software that will help you create, or a new fashion style or some cool shoes or beautiful furniture or the newest iPad, or the latest iPhone app. Or maybe you’re a minimalist and read someone’s barefoot running article, or how they’re living out of a backpack, and want to try that.

It’s a trap. Continue reading

18 Things My Dad Was Right About

reposted with permission from www.marcandangel.com.

Fifteen years ago, when I was a freshman in high school, my English teacher gave my class a homework assignment entitled, “Advice for a Younger Generation.”  The concept of the assignment was simple:  Each student had to interview a person who was over the age of 25, gather enough information to write a basic biography of their life and find out what their top tips are for a younger generation.  I chose to interview my dad.  He was 53 at the time and he gave me 18 pieces of advice. The Zen of Doing

In the chaos of the modern world, there is a beauty in simply doing. We’re buffeted wildly by whatever emails, conversations, news, events, demands, that are going on around us. Our minds become a constant deluge of thoughts dwelling in the past, worries of the future, distractions pulling us in every direction. But all of that melts away when we focus on just doing. We Need Your Help!

Dear friends – starting today, through April 30th we are conducting our second annual Spring Campaign to raise funds for our programs.

Your contribution helps us educate an average of 1,500 teens and young adults each month about the facts, myths, risk factors and warning signs of suicidal behavior, what to do in crisis, and how to cope with distress. During the 2009-2010 school year, we delivered presentations to 30 schools – reaching more than 12,000 students.

Today, we are asking for your help. We offer our assemblies to schools in our area at no charge and we rely on fundraising events and donations to support our efforts. While we recognize that these are challenging times, a small contribution goes a long way and your support saves lives. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donation is also tax-deductible.

Donating through our site is safe and easy, and you can follow the link below to get started. We hope that you will consider helping us to continue our mission of reducing youth suicides by making a contribution to our Spring Campaign today.  Thank you for your time and your continued support!

Gratefully,
- Dennis Liegghio

60 Ways to Make Life Simple Again

reproduced with permission from: Marc and Angel Hack Life – Practical Tips for Productive Living

When we were young life was easier, right?  I know sometimes it seems that way.  But the truth is life still is easy.  It always will be.  The only difference is we’re older, and the older we get, the more we complicate things for ourselves.

You see, when we were young we saw the world through simple, hopeful eyes.  We knew what we wanted and we had no biases or concealed agendas.  We liked people who smiled.  We avoided people who frowned.  We ate when we were hungry, drank when we were thirsty, and slept when we were tired.
